20/20 - JOHN STOSSEL

Former ABC 20/20 co-host John Stossel will be the next speaker at the Argus Foundation’s annual Meet the Minds event.

Currently a Fox News and Business personality, Stossel will address “the many hidden surprises” of the minimum wage and the impact it is already having on cities across the country, the foundation announced this week.

The March 12, 2020, luncheon will take place at The Grove in Lakewood Ranch.

Stossel has received 19 Emmy Awards and has been honored five times for excellence in consumer reporting by the National Press Club.

On “20/20”, he contributed in-depth special reports on a variety of consumer topics, including pop culture, government and business. His “John Stossel Specials” addressed tough questions facing Americans. Today, he regularly provides comprehensive analyses on issues such as limited government and personal freedom on his platform, John Stossel TV.

The Argus Foundation, a nonprofit business membership-based think tank and government watchdog, brings major influence figures to Sarasota annually to address impact topics.

Floridians are likely to have the chance to vote on almost doubling the state’s current minimum wage — to $15 an hour. Should Florida for a Fair Wage gather the number of required signatures to be placed on the 2020 ballot and the state Supreme Court approves, the proposed constitutional amendment will be decided by voters.

“The Argus Foundation believes that there needs to be a more balanced public conversation on the $15 minimum wage amendment,” said Christine Robinson, executive director of the foundation. “John Stossel is the perfect choice to discuss the effects of the amendment based upon the research and reporting he has done on this issue in other states.”

In addition to his media work, Stossel’s non-profit organization, “Stossel in the Classroom” has provided educational kits from his economic programs, which are viewed by more than 12 million students in American public schools every year.
