The Argus Foundation was highly concerned for North Port taxpayers and businesses as well as the overall financial health of the city when these referenda were placed on the special ballot so quickly. Our concerns centered on insufficient due diligence in understanding taxpayer costs and a lack of comprehensive long-term planning for critical city infrastructure.
Florida TaxWatch is a respected state-wide independent non-partisan taxpayer research institute and government watchdog. We requested this review because we wanted to provide voters with an independent evaluation of the four financially-related referenda. North Port voters may not be paying as close attention during a special election as they would during a regular one. This review will help voters assess whether commissioners exercised proper fiscal oversight and accountability with these ballot questions.
We thank Florida TaxWatch for its thorough examination of these referenda. We hope this will inspire voters to evaluate these ballot questions carefully and vote according to their best interests
