Meanwhile, as part of the club’s continuing efforts to inform members before election day, former Sarasota County Commissioner Christine Robinson provided an update on the legal status of other constitutional amendments, as well as her views of a county charter amendment that would have county commissioners elected only by voters in the district they represent — and not on a countywide ballot.

Robinson boiled it down to giving voters the option of voting for only one county commissioner every four years, or voting for at least two commissioners on one cycle and three commissioners on another.

“This will essentially reduce your ability to vote on county commissioners by 80 percent,” Robinson said, then added that it would mirror state and federal elections, where voters can vote only for the candidate that represents their district.
