The Argus Foundation last month wrote about the City of North Port increasing city fees dramatically and the lack of transparency as to how that occurred. Unfortunately, we are seeing a disturbing trend in artistically crafted language that seems to be unchecked by the City Commission in terms of accountability, the commission’s main responsibility in city government.
The Argus Foundation is a non-profit, nonpartisan, business membership-based organization in Sarasota County. We have members from the southern border of the county to the northern border, from the barrier islands to east of the interstate. We provide business leadership to important community issues within Sarasota County, that includes our southern municipalities, like North Port.

The goal of an election should always be to have the highest overall voter turnout possible to elect our leaders. Elected officials should always be answerable to the widest range of voters, and hopefully that includes a diverse electorate.
The much-anticipated school grades for the 2022-2023 school year were released under the new assessment system implemented in the State of Florida. Data was released much later than usual and also in parts. The data released this week dealt with District rankings and grades, and also individual school rankings and grades. This column will cover district data.
